GLO™: A Radiant Language of Light
GLO™ was born not as a business, but as a gesture, a quiet offering of light, story, and healing. Conceived by Dr. James Levin in the 1970s, GLO began with hand-illustrated cards designed to bring comfort, wonder, and inspiration to his patients, especially children. These were not ordinary greeting cards—they were invitations into an unseen world where magic and meaning quietly resided in the everyday.
From the start, GLO set itself apart.
It became the first greeting card company to feature hand-set Austrian crystals on full color cards, transforming paper into something sacred—glimmering with intention, beauty, and touchable light. Each card carried within it a carefully chosen message, often a poem or reflection, paired with luminous artwork and crystalline embellishment.
There were no signatures. No names. No attributions. GLO was intentionally anonymous, allowing the message and image to take center stage, undisturbed by ego. It spoke not from a single voice, but from the universal longing to connect, uplift, and remind.
Before the days of social media or digital promotion, GLO grew by word of mouth and personal connection. Jim made hundreds of calls a day, opening accounts across Hawaii, the mainland United States, and eventually around the world. Through this quiet persistence, GLO cards found their way into hearts and homes across continents.
As its international presence grew, so did its resonance. GLO’s messages were translated into French, German, Spanish, Icelandic, and Japanese, a testament to their universal appeal and emotional depth. Each translation preserved the poetic tone and uplifting spirit that defined the original cards, allowing people across cultures to feel seen, soothed, and inspired.
At its core, GLO was, and is, a philosophy.
It is the belief that healing and wonder can coexist, that beauty matters, and that light can be transmitted through the simplest acts of care.
